This piece was issued by the West German government in 1961 as a prestige bullion-style restrike, part of a broader series of large-format gold multiples produced for collectors and diplomatic gift purposes rather than circulation. Adenauer himself was still Chancellor when it was struck — he would resign two years later under pressure from the Spiegel Affair.
