| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays six military flags or standards of the cities captured by the combined Zürich and Bernese forces during the Second Villmergen War of 1712 in Toggenburg, representing Kaiserstuhl, Bremgarten, Wil, Baden, Mellingen, and Klingnau, arranged prominently in the field. Below the flags, a trophy of arms is depicted comprising a suit of armour, a shield, a cannon with cannonballs, and assorted weapons, all rendered in the elaborate Baroque medallic tradition. The reverse legend VNITI CRESCVNT SPLENDORE LEONIBVS VRSI ('Lions and bears grow together in glory and splendor') encircles the design, with the date MDCCXII (1712) incorporated into the inscription. The overall composition commemorates the military alliance and victory of the Protestant cantons and is characteristic of Swiss victory pieces of this period. |
