Reverse description A detailed panoramic view of the city of Basel occupies the central field, depicting the Rhine riverfront with identifiable towers, spires, and fortifications rendered in fine engraved perspective, with gondolas visible on the river below. Above the cityscape, a row of eight heraldic shields arranged in an arc represents the cantons and allied territories of the Swiss Confederation. Beneath the shields, the city name BASILEA appears within an ornate baroque cartouche. The date 1741 is inscribed in the lower exergue, flanked by mint-master initials and decorative foliate branches, with cornucopiae at the sides.
