| Reverse description | The reverse displays a front-facing portrait of the Greek national poet Dionysios Solomos, rendered in a realistic style with fine detail. The legend 'Δ. ΣΟΛΩΜΟΣ' appears above the portrait, identifying the subject. The engraver's initials 'Κ.Κ.' are incused at the base of the bust. The portrait occupies the central field with a plain background, presenting a dignified and formal representation of the celebrated lyric poet. |

The drachma's final decade. Greece entered the European Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1998, locking the drachma to the euro at a fixed conversion rate of 340.75 drachmai — making coins struck in this window among the last the Bank of Greece would ever commission. Circulation continued until February 2002, when euro coinage replaced it entirely.
