| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King George I facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair swept back from the forehead. The royal legend ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α΄ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ curves along the upper periphery, while the date 1869 appears in the lower exergual area flanked by the mintmark E (Paris) to the left and the engraver's signature BARRE to the right. The portrait is executed in the neoclassical style characteristic of Désiré-Albert Barre, with a plain field and a continuous beaded border encircling the design. |
