| Reverse description | Boldly modelled bare head of Poseidon, god of the sea, facing right, with long flowing hair swept back and adorned with a trident ornament at the crown, and a full curling beard rendered in elaborate wavy locks that fill much of the field. The engraver's initials PM appear discreetly in the lower central field. The inscription ΠΟΣΕΙΔΩΝ (Poseidon) curves along the lower left periphery. The portrait is deeply struck in a monumental classical style inspired by ancient Greek coinage and sculpture. |
