Liberia's late-1990s commemorative program was essentially a commercial operation — the Central Bank licensed its minting authority to foreign distributors who flooded the market with themed issues bearing Liberian denominations but intended entirely for collector sale abroad. This piece, one of two Rabbit-year types struck for 1999, never circulated in Liberia and had no meaningful domestic monetary function.
The secondary market for this series remains soft. Oversaturation from the original distribution runs keeps prices low regardless of preserved condition.
