| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Liberia is prominently displayed at centre, depicting a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, a rising sun, a dove in flight, and a plough with a cannon in the foreground, all within a decorated shield. A ribbon across the upper portion of the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with a secondary inscription REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appearing on a scroll at the base of the arms. The date 2002 is divided by the coat of arms, with '20' to the left and '02' to the right in the field. |

| Reverse description | A front-facing portrait of Sir Winston Churchill, the celebrated British statesman and wartime Prime Minister, dominates the centre of the field, rendered in detailed relief. The iconic Tower Bridge of London appears in the background, flanking the bust on either side and lending an architectural grandeur to the composition. The legend WINSTON CHURCHILL arcs along the upper periphery of the coin, while the denomination 20 DOLLARS is inscribed in the lower field beneath the portrait. |

| Additional information |
Churchill's appearance on Liberian coinage is a function of that nation's long-running commemorative program, which throughout the 1990s and early 2000s issued hundreds of licensed foreign-subject pieces with no connection to Liberian history. These were produced largely for the collector market and saw no meaningful domestic circulation.
