Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a symbolic allegorical composition depicting two upraised hands cradling a globe showing the continents of the Eastern Hemisphere, set against a celestial field scattered with four-pointed stars, smaller star ornaments, and a crescent moon to the upper left. The scene conveys themes of hope and stewardship at the dawn of the new millennium. The circular legend '2000 * THE * NEW * MILLENNIUM' runs around the upper periphery, separated by star stops, while the word 'FAITH' appears on a recessed ribbon at the base of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

Kiribati's millennium commemorative was issued by a nation that held a unique geographic claim to the moment: Kiribati had reorganized its international date line in 1995 specifically so that its easternmost islands, the Line Islands including Caroline Island (renamed Millennium Island for the occasion), would fall within the same calendar day as the rest of the country. This made Kiribati officially the first nation to enter the year 2000.

Caroline Island had been uninhabited for decades prior to the celebration staged there on January 1, 2000.
