Liberia's early 2000s commemorative program was essentially a commercial licensing operation — the country issued hundreds of coin types through foreign distributors targeting the collector novelty market, with little connection to Liberian history or national interest. This piece is one of dozens from that period commemorating American Civil War engagements, produced for sale through catalog and television shopping channels primarily in the United States.
The Second Battle of Manassas, fought August 28–30, 1862, ended in a decisive Confederate victory under Lee and Jackson that effectively cleared Union forces from northern Virginia ahead of the Maryland Campaign.
