| 正面描述 | Full-length draped figure of Liberty striding forward in high relief, facing slightly left, her right arm raised aloft bearing a flaming torch and her left arm extended holding an olive branch. Radiating sun rays emanate from behind the figure across the field, with a rocky outcrop beneath her feet. A ring of forty-six stars encircles the design along the inner border. The legend LIBERTY arcs across the upper field, and the Roman numeral date MMIX appears in the lower right field. |

The original Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle of 1907–1933 is broadly considered the finest American coin design ever produced, but the 2009 bullion restrike occupies an odd corner of that history. The Ultra High Relief version issued that same year — a separate one-ounce gold piece struck four times to achieve depth approaching Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original intent — drew most of the collector attention in 2009, leaving the standard bullion issue somewhat overshadowed despite sharing the same design lineage.
The .999 fineness distinguishes these modern issues from the original .900 gold coins, which were alloyed for circulation durability. Saint-Gaudens himself died in 1907, months before his design reached final production.
