Palau has operated as a prolific novelty bullion issuer since the early 2000s, leveraging a 1994 Compact of Free Association with the United States that left the island nation with no central bank of its own and no domestic currency to defend — a condition that makes issuing commemorative foreign-legal-tender coins essentially costless politically. The 20-dollar denomination here is nominal; Palau uses the US dollar in daily circulation and has no obligation to redeem these pieces at face value.
The Reticulated Python, native across Southeast Asia, is among the longest snake species on record. Specimens exceeding 6 meters have been documented in the wild.
