Beschrijving keerzijde Central motif presents a high-relief effigy of a death's-head hawkmoth (Acherontia atropos) with wings fully extended, its thorax rendered in the unmistakable form of a human skull, depicted in antique copper-toned antiqued finish against a warm iridescent rainbow-colored field. The surrounding circular border carries the palindromic Latin legend IN GIRUM IMUS NOCTE ET CONSUMIMUR IGNI in Gothic blackletter script, inscribed in a continuous ring with both normal and mirror-reversed lettering, evoking the moth's nocturnal circling of flame. The date 2023 is incused in the lower field beneath the moth.

Aanvullende informatie

Palau has issued novelty silver pieces under its licensing arrangements with foreign minting houses for decades, and this 2023 entry continues that pattern. The republic's monetary authority has long operated as a vehicle for commemorative issues aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation — Palau's actual economy runs on the US dollar.

KM#993 places this among a crowded field of Palauan fauna-themed silver issues from the same period.
