| Reverse description | The central field depicts astronaut Edward H. White II performing his historic spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission, rendered in high relief against a stylized representation of space. White is shown in full pressure suit, tethered by a umbilical line, with the Gemini IV spacecraft visible in the upper portion of the field. The denomination $20 appears in the lower exergue. The encircling legend McDIVITT * WHITE - MISSION GEMINI IV arcs around the upper and lateral rim, with a five-pointed star separating the astronauts' surnames. |

| Additional information |
Gemini IV launched June 3, 1965, and carried Ed White on the first American spacewalk — 23 minutes outside the capsule over the southwestern United States and the Pacific. White had to be ordered back inside by commander James McDivitt; he later called it the saddest moment of his life. Liberia's commemorative program of this period produced dozens of such issues for the international collector market, with no domestic circulation intent whatsoever.
