Hutt River — formally the Province of Hutt River — was a self-declared micronation in Western Australia founded by Leonard Casley in 1970 after a dispute with the state government over wheat production quotas. By the early 1990s, Casley had styled himself Prince Leonard I and was issuing a steady stream of novelty currency aimed squarely at collectors rather than any functioning economy. These pieces circulated nowhere and were intended to circulate nowhere.
The F-15E had entered USAF operational service just two years prior, in 1989, making this one of the more timely military aviation issues of the micronation collector genre.
