Additional information

The Yukon Territory's official inclusion in Canadian coinage commemoratives has been sporadic, reflecting its persistent status as one of the least populated jurisdictions in North America — roughly 45,000 residents spread across an area larger than California. The 1898 creation of the Yukon Territory was itself a direct administrative response to the Klondike Gold Rush, Ottawa scrambling to assert federal control over an influx of over 100,000 prospectors that briefly made Dawson City the largest city west of Winnipeg.

Struck in .9999 fine silver, this issue belongs to the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing provincial and territorial series. The Yukon entry is among the later additions to that program.
