Part of the RCM's long-running fine silver natural series, this issue belongs to a program that has leaned heavily on Canadian wildlife subjects since the early 2010s — the Northern Cardinal being a year-round resident across southern Ontario and parts of Quebec, occasionally pushing its range northward as winters moderate. Elizabeth II's name appears on the obverse despite her death in September 2022, as the RCM had committed the tooling and authorization well before the transition to Charles III.
