Obverse description The obverse features a fine bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Edward VII, adapted from George W. de Saulles's original design used on the historic 1908 Canadian Sovereign. The king is depicted with a short trimmed beard and moustache, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The engraver's initials 'DeS.' appear incuse on the truncation of the neck. The circumferential Latin legend reads 'EDWARDVS VII D: G: BRITT: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP:' encircling the upper field, while 'CANADA' appears prominently in the lower field, all within a fine beaded border.
