| Obverse description | The arms of the Republic of Liberia occupy the central field, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea beneath a rising sun, with a dove in flight above and a palm tree to the right, all within a shield supported by decorative scrollwork. A ribbon below the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper rim, with REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA repeated on a scroll beneath the arms and 20 DOLLARS inscribed along the lower rim. The date 2000 is divided across the lower field, flanking the shield on either side. The entire design is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field. |

| Reverse description | A finely detailed depiction of the HM Bark Endeavour under full sail occupies the left and central portion of the field, rendered with rigging, furled canvas, and hull detail characteristic of an 18th-century Royal Navy collier bark. To the right, an unframed portrait bust of Captain James Cook faces left, depicted in period dress with a powdered wig, consistent with contemporary likenesses of the explorer. The legend HM BARK ENDEAVOUR arcs along the upper left rim, and the denomination $20 appears in the lower central field. The design is set against a deeply mirrored proof background. |
