Beschrijving voorzijde The national coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship at sea with a rising sun, a palm tree, a dove in flight, and a plough with a spade in the foreground, all within a decorative shield. A scrolled banner above the shield bears the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE'. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper and lower periphery, with the date '2003' divided and placed at left and right of the shield. The design is framed by an inner beaded border and an outer reeded rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Franz Grillparzer, Austria's preeminent 19th-century dramatist, has no discernible connection to Liberia. This piece belongs to the broad category of collector-targeted silver issues produced under license arrangements that allowed foreign mints and distributors to use Liberian legal tender status as a vehicle for themed numismatic series — in this case almost certainly part of a "Famous Europeans" or similar marketed set. The Central Bank of Liberia issued dozens of such coins in the early 2000s, none intended for circulation.
