Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia prominently at center, featuring a three-masted sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun within the shield, with a dove in flight above and a scroll bearing the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' across the top of the arms. The shield is supported by decorative mantling with a ribbon at the base inscribed 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs around the upper field, while the denomination '20 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower field. The date '2000' is divided on either side of the arms, and the entire design is framed by a dentillated border.

Additional information

Liberia's Central Bank issued a prolonged series of commemorative dollars around 2000 targeting the collector market almost exclusively — pieces like this Frankfurt am Main issue were never intended for domestic circulation in a country whose own monetary system was severely strained at the time. The series drew criticism from numismatic organizations for the sheer volume of thematic releases produced under Liberian authority, most manufactured by third-party mints in Europe with no meaningful connection to the issuing nation.
