| 正面描述 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia at centre, depicting a three-masted sailing ship at sea with a rising sun on the horizon, a palm tree and a plough with a dove in flight above, all enclosed within a wreath of oak leaves. A scrolled banner above the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, while a second legend reading REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA appears on a ribbon below the shield. The circular outer legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the divided date 20 01 flanking the shield to left and right respectively. |

Liberia's Central Bank issued a sprawling series of foreign-themed commemoratives in the late 1990s and early 2000s, largely produced by overseas mints and aimed squarely at the collector market rather than circulation. These pieces were struck during one of the most violent periods in Liberian history — the country was barely two years removed from the end of the Second Liberian Civil War when this coin was issued, with Charles Taylor's government using hard currency earnings from exports, including commemorative coin licensing, to sustain a treasury under severe international pressure.
