The Series 1950 $20 runs across six signature combinations and spans more than a decade of issue — Clark & Snyder through Granahan & Fowler — reflecting how slowly the BEP retired a viable plate series. The 1950E is the scarcest of the run, issued only through the Federal Reserve Banks of New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, making most district combinations for that suffix genuinely difficult to locate.
Replacement notes for Series 1950 and 1950D are identified by a star suffix rather than the prefix position used on later issues. The 1950 star notes (Clark & Snyder) are particularly elusive in any grade.
