| Reverse description | The reverse, designed by Alexandra Lefort, presents a vibrant, photorealistic color rendition of the Pillars of Creation within the Eagle Nebula, reinterpreting the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada's sesquicentennial logo in a scientifically faithful art style. Towering columns of interstellar gas and dust are rendered in rich hues of amber, blue, and purple, evoking the stellar nursery where new stars are born — a symbolic reference to the founding and growth of the RASC. The design pays homage to Canadian contributions to stellar spectroscopy and photometry, as well as to the scientific legacy of astronomer Helen Sawyer Hogg. The legend CANADA 1868-2018 arcs along the upper field, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the society, with the denomination 20 DOLLARS and the designer's initials AL positioned in the lower field. The color application is achieved through a specialized printing process applied to the polished silver flan. |
