Additional information

Zhong Kui is a figure from Tang dynasty folklore, canonized as a vanquisher of demons and ghosts, whose iconography has been a fixture of Chinese New Year and door-god traditions for over a millennium. Cook Islands has issued Chinese mythology-themed bullion and collector pieces extensively, largely targeting the East Asian collector market through distribution arrangements that have little connection to the islands themselves.

The 3 troy ounce silver weight places this squarely in the high-relief collector coin category produced by the BH Mayer or similar European contract mints on behalf of Pacific island issuing authorities.
