The Bermuda Monetary Authority replaced the Bermuda Government as the sole currency issuer in 1969, but the authority's notes have always been printed by De La Rue — a relationship that predates the BMA itself. The Whistling Frog series, of which this is part, was introduced to highlight Bermuda's endemic and near-endemic fauna at a time when the islands' biodiversity was under active conservation pressure. The whistling frog, Eleutherodactylus johnstonei, is in fact an introduced species — its presence on a conservation-themed note is an irony that seems to have passed without official comment.
