The Fairchild 71C was a single-engine bush plane built by Fairchild Aircraft of Canada in Longueuil, Quebec, first flown in 1935. Designed specifically for Canadian wilderness operations — floats, skis, or wheels interchangeable depending on season — it became the workhorse of remote northern aviation for several decades. This coin is the fourth in the Royal Canadian Mint's Aviation series, which ran from 1990 to 1999 covering twenty aircraft central to Canadian aeronautical history.
The series paired each coin with a matching 50-cent piece depicting the aircraft's pioneer pilot or operator, issued together as a two-coin set.
