| Opis rewersu | The reverse, engraved by Christie Paquet, features a gold-plated rendition of the ancient granite bust of Cleopatra VII, believed to have been acquired by the Royal Ontario Museum's first director in the early 1900s and considered a rare idealized portrait of the Egyptian queen. Rising dramatically behind the bust is the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, the iconic contemporary addition to the museum's architecture, whose angular, prismatic aluminum-clad facades and reflective window surfaces are rendered in meticulous relief. The upper field bears the bilingual centennial inscription '100 YEARS ANS,' while the lower exergue carries the face value '20 DOLLARS' and the issuing country 'CANADA,' with the date '2014' completing the legend. The selective gold plating applied to the Cleopatra bust creates a striking visual contrast against the polished and frosted silver surfaces of the field and architectural elements. The composition masterfully juxtaposes ancient Egyptian heritage with twentieth-century modernist architecture to celebrate the museum's centenary. |
