| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts the colourised coat of arms of Newfoundland and Labrador, a quartered shield in red and white bearing a crowned lion passant guardant and a unicorn passant in the upper quarters, and a unicorn passant and a crowned lion passant guardant in the lower quarters, all separated by a white cross on a red field. The shield is rendered in full colour with red, white, gold, and black tones applied to the silvered surface. Surrounding the base of the shield is an arrangement of engraved maple leaves extending across the lower field. A scrolled banner below the shield bears the date 1949, commemorating the year of Newfoundland and Labrador's confederation with Canada. The entire design is presented on the puzzle-piece shaped flan, intended to interlock with other pieces in the Canadian Puzzle Coin series. |
