| Reverse description | Highly detailed central depiction of the Antikythera Mechanism, rendered in high relief with interlocking bronze-style toothed gears and dials occupying the central field, evoking the ancient Greek analogue computing device used to track astronomical positions and calendrical cycles. Surrounding the mechanical centerpiece is a continuous frieze of finely sculpted classical Greek figures, mythological scenes, and animals in low relief, separated from the outer border by a wavy band suggestive of the sea from which the mechanism was recovered. The outermost rim is adorned with a repeated Greek meander (key) pattern. The legend ANTIKYTHERA arcs along the upper rim and MECHANISM along the lower rim, with the date 20 23 divided on either side of the inner frieze. |
