The Majestic Maple Leaves series belongs to a period when the Royal Canadian Mint was aggressively expanding its bullion-adjacent collector market, offering face-value silver pieces at modest premiums to draw in non-traditional buyers. The $20-for-$20 program, under which this coin was issued, launched in 2011 and proved successful enough that the Mint extended it across dozens of nature-themed subjects through the mid-2010s. Each piece was limited and sold directly to the public without dealer markup at issue.
The .9999 fineness is worth noting — fractionally purer than the standard .999 used by most sovereign mints at the time, a specification the RCM had refined through its domestic refining operations.
