The "Ketch" belongs to the Canada Tall Ships series, a run of fine silver issues the Royal Canadian Mint produced in the mid-2000s documenting working sail rigs that defined coastal trade and fishing in Canadian waters. The ketch rig — two masts, mizzen stepped forward of the rudder post — was a practical workhorse on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts well into the twentieth century, prized for its manageable sail plan in short-handed crews.
Struck in .9999 fine silver rather than the more common .999, placing it among the RCM's higher-purity issues of the period.
