Reverse description Central device consists of a single Sugar Maple leaf (Acer saccharum) rendered entirely as a multi-color hologram, displaying shifting hues of blue, violet, and teal against a deeply mirrored field. The legend CANADA arcs along the upper periphery in holographic lettering, while FINE GOLD 1/2 OZ OR PUR runs along the lower arc. The fineness designation .9999 appears flanking the maple leaf on both sides of the field. A colored oval cartouche at the base of the leaf stem bears the bilingual commemorative inscription 20 YEARS ANS, marking the twentieth anniversary of the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin series.

Additional information

The 1999 fractional gold hologram series was the Royal Canadian Mint's first venture into combining holographic technology with bullion coinage — an aggressive pitch to the collector market at a moment when the RCM was aggressively diversifying beyond its Maple Leaf bullion program. The hologram was applied to the reverse field, a technically demanding process that required separate die preparation and made restrikes impractical.

The complete set sold out quickly through authorized distributors, and individual fractional pieces rarely surface outside their original packaging.
