Calico Jack Rackham was captured in October 1720 off the coast of Jamaica, his crew too drunk to resist — a detail that emerged during his trial in Spanish Town and became part of the public record. He was hanged at Gallows Point, Port Royal, and his body displayed in a gibbet as a warning to other pirates operating in Caribbean waters. The British Virgin Islands issued this coin as part of a broader commemorative series on Golden Age of Piracy figures, a subject that sells well in the tourist and collector markets of the Caribbean basin.
