Aanvullende informatie

Billy Bishop shot down 72 enemy aircraft during the First World War — a figure disputed almost immediately after the war ended and debated by historians ever since. His Victoria Cross action of June 2, 1917, a solo dawn raid on a German aerodrome at Estourmel, was witnessed by no one on the ground, and the RFC's own records were inconsistent enough that a 1985 Canadian Senate subcommittee formally questioned whether the attack occurred as described.

The RCM issued this coin as part of its broader First World War aviation commemoration series, timed to the centenary years.
