背面描述 A bald eagle in dynamic flight is depicted in high relief, banking slightly as it carries a freshly caught fish secured in its talons. The bird's plumage is rendered with exceptional detail, showing individually engraved feathers across the spread wings and body. A rocky, tree-lined shoreline is visible in the upper right background field, evoking a natural Canadian wilderness setting, while aquatic vegetation occupies the lower register. The legend CANADA 2014 arcs along the upper rim, and the denomination 20 DOLLARS descends along the right rim; the engraver's initials CD appear in the lower left field.

附加信息

Part of the RCM's ongoing fine silver wildlife series, this issue coincides with a period when the bald eagle — long absent from much of Canada as a breeding population — had recovered sufficiently along Pacific and Atlantic coasts that encounters with the species were becoming routine again. The recovery owed largely to the 1972 ban on DDT across North America, which had devastated raptor reproduction for decades by thinning eggshells.

Struck to .9999 fineness rather than the more common .999, a standard the RCM adopted aggressively in this era to differentiate its bullion and collector output from competing mints.
