The Bermuda Monetary Authority was established in 1969, replacing the Bermuda Government as the issuing authority and marking the island's shift toward a more formalized central banking structure — though the BMA still operates without a lender-of-last-resort function in the conventional sense. This series, running across more than a decade, was produced entirely by De La Rue in London, consistent with Bermuda's longstanding reliance on British security printers.
The peg to the US dollar at 1:1, fixed since 1970, meant these notes were designed as much for tourist-facing transactions as for domestic use — a practical reality that shaped denominations and printing volumes throughout the series.
