The 1974 Bahamian issue marked the first complete series produced for the Central Bank following its establishment in 1974 — the Bank itself was only constituted that same year, replacing the Bahamas Monetary Authority which had managed currency since 1968. De La Rue's involvement was continuous through this transition, supplying notes to both bodies.
The $20 denomination was the highest value in the inaugural Central Bank series, making it disproportionately susceptible to removal from circulation by merchants and the public — survivorship in genuinely circulated grades is accordingly uneven.
