| Obverse description | The obverse features the fourth-portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Raphael Maklouf, facing right. The Queen is depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem, a drop earring, and a necklace, rendered in fine detail against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the upper left rim and 'COOK ISLANDS' along the upper right rim, both in raised Latin lettering. The date '1997' appears in the lower field beneath the portrait.
