| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device features a heraldic American eagle displayed with wings spread, clutching arrows in the left talon and an olive branch in the right, with a shield upon its breast. The legend CLARK GRUBER & CO. arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1860 is inscribed along the lower periphery. The eagle's head faces heraldically to the right. The coin is bordered by a beaded rim, and the overall relief is characteristic of a cast pewter replica. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Clark, Gruber and Co. was a private Denver mint operating between 1860 and 1863, striking gold coins from Pikes Peak placer deposits at a time when the nearest federal mint was in New Orleans. The firm was bought out by the U.S. government in 1863, after which the building became an assay office rather than a coinage facility — federal coins were never actually struck there.
This is a pewter replica. The originals were struck in gold.
