The composition is symmetrically arranged and features traditional folk-art motifs including stylized sunflowers, floral sprays, scrolling tendrils, and small daisy-like blossoms rendered in purple, green, yellow, blue, and black against a white ground. The lower register is dominated by bold chevron bands filled with interlocking diamond lattice patterns in purple, black, and white. The pysanka — a Ukrainian Easter egg decorated through a wax-resist dyeing process — carries particular weight in Canada given the country's Ukrainian diaspora, the largest outside Ukraine and Russia itself, concentrated heavily in Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan following late 19th-century settlement waves. The Royal Canadian Mint has issued pysanka-themed coins periodically since at least the 2010s, often employing selective colour application or niello-style enameling to replicate the geometric precision of the tradition.
