The Moon Phases series is one of the Royal Canadian Mint's more technically demanding annual programs, requiring precise application of black rhodium to specific relief zones without contaminating adjacent fields — a process that the RCM has refined across multiple collector series since the mid-2010s. Each coin in the KM#3593–3599 run corresponds to a distinct lunar phase, making this a seven-piece set rather than a single issue.
Charles III's effigy on Canadian coinage was confirmed following the Accession in September 2022, with the RCM adopting the Jody Clark portrait — originally commissioned for the late Queen — as a transitional obverse before the new Gough portrait entered circulation-issue production.
