Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse features a central colored vignette depicting Anne of Green Gables — a red-braided girl in period dress seated before an open journal with an ink pot — set against a pastoral Prince Edward Island landscape with rolling fields and sky. To the right, a sculpted silver effigy of author L.M. Montgomery, shown in three-quarter view wearing period clothing and spectacles, holds a pen as if writing. The inscription 150 YEARS / ANS appears in the colored field, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Montgomery's birth. The legend CANADA 20 DOLLARS arcs along the upper rim, and L.M. Montgomery's facsimile signature is engraved across the lower field, with the engraver's initials BJ at lower right.

Aanvullende informatie

The L.M. Montgomery commemorative fits within the RCM's ongoing fine silver program, which has issued dozens of literary and cultural subjects annually since the early 2000s. Montgomery died in 1942, and for decades the circumstances were kept quiet by her family — it was not until 2008 that her granddaughter publicly confirmed the death was a suicide, a disclosure that reframed how scholars read her final diary entries.
