| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse, designed by Canadian artist June Steube, depicts a honey bee (Apis mellifera) rendered in a stylized overhead perspective, alighting at the centre of a composite floral motif inspired by daisies and black-eyed Susans. The overhead vantage point allows the bee's wing pattern to be presented in a decorative, semi-naturalistic manner, emphasizing its role as a vital pollinator. The surrounding petals frame a honeycomb background, whose repeating hexagonal cells deliberately echo the six-sided form of the coin itself. The bee, the honeycomb, and the rims on both sides are selectively plated in yellow gold, creating a striking contrast against the proof-finish silver surfaces. The designer's initials JS appear in the field. |
