Liberia's extensive run of foreign-topic commemoratives in the late 1990s and early 2000s was frankly a revenue operation — the coins were designed, marketed, and distributed almost entirely outside Liberia, aimed at Western collector markets with little domestic circulation or relevance. This piece, commemorating the April 1775 engagements that opened the American Revolutionary War, is squarely part of that program.
The shot fired at Lexington on the morning of April 19 — whether British or colonial remains unresolved by historians — triggered a running battle back to Boston that killed 73 regulars and 49 militiamen.
