Obverse description The obverse is executed in shades of blue on a fine guilloche underprint, with the large bicolour denomination numeral '20' in red and blue at the upper left. The central vignette presents the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong rendered in intaglio, set against a stylised bauhinia flower. At upper centre the Bank of China circular logo appears alongside the bilingual bank name in Chinese and English, with the promise-to-pay legend, denomination in Chinese and English, and the Chief Executive's facsimile signature occupying the left field. A vertical security strip with an optically variable leaf device and the serial number appear on the right portion of the note.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in blue tones against a largely white ground, with a finely engraved vignette of a traditional Chinese Yixing clay teapot accompanied by two small tea bowls and a saucer at centre, evoking the Cantonese yum cha culture. Behind the tea service, stylised tea leaves rendered in pale teal serve as a background element, while a mountain landscape underprint appears in the upper portion. The denomination numeral '20' is printed in large bicolour figures at upper right, with the bank name in Chinese and English set in a teal band along the lower margin.

Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited is one of three commercial banks licensed to issue Hong Kong dollar notes — an arrangement with no parallel in most modern economies, where note issuance is a central bank monopoly. Each issuing bank must lodge full equivalent value in US dollars with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority before any note enters circulation, effectively backstopping the linked exchange rate at the note level.

The P#348A designation places this within the post-2018 redesign series, which extended the existing note architecture rather than replacing it wholesale. Cotton paper at this denomination is a deliberate retention — the HKD series has resisted polymer conversion at lower denominations longer than many comparable high-circulation notes in the region.
