| 正面描述 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia at center, featuring a sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun within a shield, with a cannon and plow in the foreground. A scrolled ribbon above the shield bears the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE', while a second scroll at the base reads 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. The outer legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper rim, and the date '2004' is divided to either side of the central device. The design is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, with a beaded inner border and reeded edge. |

Liberia's Olympic commemorative program in the early 2000s was prolific to the point of controversy — the Central Bank issued dozens of silver pieces tied to the 2004 Athens Games, most destined for the collector market rather than any domestic circulation. Water polo returned to its modern home at Athens, where the sport had first appeared in the 1896 program, making the thematic choice at least historically grounded.
KM# 520 is one of the longer series in this run. Collector demand was modest at issue and has remained so.
