Additional information

Liberia's Olympic commemorative program in the early 2000s was essentially a licensing operation — the government authorized dozens of silver issues tied to the 2004 Athens Games, most struck by European contract mints with negligible domestic circulation. Field hockey had no particular connection to Liberia, which has never qualified an Olympic field hockey team. These were produced for the collector export market, full stop.

Athens 2004 marked the sport's return to its modern Olympic birthplace, and men's field hockey had been contested at the Games since 1908.
