Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia in high relief at centre, featuring a sailing ship at sea beneath a palm tree with a rising sun, surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, and enclosed within a decorative escutcheon inscribed REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the date 2000 divided across the lower field on either side of the arms. The denomination 20 DOLLARS appears in the exergue, with a finely beaded border encircling the entire design.
