Obverse description The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship on the sea, a rising sun, a dove in flight, a palm tree, and a plough and spade in the foreground, all within a shield surmounted by a ribbon bearing the national motto. The split date '20 00' flanks the shield at left and right. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper periphery, with the motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' inscribed on a ribbon across the upper portion of the shield. The denomination '20 DOLLARS' is inscribed in the lower exergue. The entire design is framed by a beaded border.
